The Rarest Item In Stardew Valley May Have Just Been Discovered By One Lucky Fan (2024)

When it comes to digging around for secrets, there's no community quite as dedicated as Stardew Valley, leading to rampant confusion when the discovery is in question is more than a little odd. Given the sprawling nature of the farming RPG, there are hundreds of unique items that can be unearthed by simply digging up the various worms that end up breaking the soil around Pelican Town. While the loot from these drops is generally neglible, sometimes they result in an item that's so rare, players question its very existence.

Posted to Reddit by user ObamasSirName, the player showed off an image of their inventory which includes an item that's simply titled "Artifact Spot."

It looks identical to the cluster of worms visible over of the aforementioned loot drops and even sports a description that only causes more confusion: "How did you get this in your inventory?" It certainly looks official and while ObamasSirName originally shared the screenshot to ask if the item is rare, the community is torn on whether or not it was obtained without the use of "cheats."

Following ObamasSirName's query, the Stardew Valley Reddit began debating whether the Artifact Spot was a real item with roughly half of the forum insisting they'd encounter the drop and the other half claiming it could only spawn with the help of console commands. When questioned about how they picked up the item, ObamasSirName notes that it was discovered during a multiplayer game and that they didn't have any mods installed. The current hypothesis is that the Artifact Spot was spawn by their friend's game who may have had custom add-ons installed.

Despite this theory, many fans are claiming to have seen the Artifact Spot crop up during livestreams, suggesting that it's a valid item with an incredibly low spawn rate. The existence of a description lends credence to this idea and yet the actual content of the text box suggests it was included as a sarcastic response by developer ConcenedApe for players who used console commands. The jury is still out on whether or not the Artifact Spot is real or a manipulation of the game's code.

When it comes to the game's rarest legitimate item, there's no definite answer but the community has spent years researching the answer. Most agree that the drop that's hardest to find is the Living Hat which only has 0.01% chance to spawn from Wilderness Golems and 0.02% chance on Iridium Golems. Other incredibly rare items include the Tea Set and Dinosaur Egg.

There's always something new to discover in Pelican Valley.

Perhaps one of the longest standing mysteries in Stardew Valley is an audio cue that's existed in the game since launch that seemingly triggers at random during rainy days. While running around Pelican Town, Farmers with a keen ear will often hear a strange moaning sound bounce around the valley and while it sounds like some kind of otherworldly creature, ConcernedApe has never offered an explanation for its existence. The villagers have their own explanations with Leah insisting it's the spirits of the forest that can only be heard in the rain while Marnie believes it may be The Wizard.
