So I just learned something in Quickbase yesterday that legit blew my mind 🤯I'd been working on a formula to show a message when a field was blank to preempt an error on save.Something REALLLLLLLLLY basic, like:If([text field]="","MESSAGE")But I continued to get a result of "???"😡 WTF Quickbase surely you are messing with me.After much research, trial, and error... this is what I discovered...If a field is marked as "Required" in the field properties, exactly this will happen!I NEVER would have made this connection!The field was "First Name" and it was in fact required in the field properties 🤦♀️A simple adjustment to un-require it in the field properties and require it in the form settings (there is no concern here about grid edit or import) produced the desired formula result.🥳🥳🥳I've seen the "???" before but never knew what caused it to happen until now.You're Welcome.PS Quickbase... can you change this? Airtable is the perfect blend of a spreadsheet and a database. You can build a completely customizable tool for your business, complete with automation and integrations with other tools. But having a good structure is key! Not only something that works for today, but something you can continue to build upon in the future. If you’ve never worked with databases before, it can be hard to wrap your head around. It’s so flexible that it’s easy to go down the wrong path. (Should that field be a Lookup?
