MLB Injury Report for Monday, June 3, 2024.

Gerrit Cole – SP New York Yankees (elbow)

Gerrit Cole will start Tuesday for @SOMPatriots, Aaron Boone said.

— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) June 2, 2024

Fantastic news as all Gerrit Cole owners and Yankees fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Cole has entered the final phase of his recovery, and, all things considered, he could be back within a few weeks. While the maximum number of days he can stay in a rehab assignment is 30, there has been talk of him possibly being ready after two starts. While that should be considered the best-case scenario, chances are that he will make his 2024 debut before we hit July.

Kodai Senga – SP New York Mets (shoulder)

Here was Kodai Senga throwing yesterday. Still very light-ish to moderate throwing and mechanical work, as Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told us on Saturday https://t.co/kIBWDUelrc pic.twitter.com/494CQmA7wt

— Pat Ragazzo (@ragazzoreport) June 2, 2024

While it’s good to see Senga out on the field doing something, he has all but started from scratch here by light throwing. It remains to be seen if he can skip past some of the earliest hurdles that would typically need to be cleared (such as throwing from various distances) but for now, consider him to be far away from any debut this season.

Royce Lewis – 3B Minnesota Twins (quad)

Sounds like if Royce Lewis gets through his game at third base with Triple-A St. Paul today without issue and comes out of it well, he's anticipated to join the #MNTwins for the Yankees opener on Tuesday.

— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) June 2, 2024

As of this writing, there were no indications that Lewis was unable to make it through his game yesterday. The Twins also optioned Edouard Julien to Triple-A yesterday, possibly clearing out room for the returning Lewis. While anything can happen between now and tomorrow, it is looking like he will be back with Minnesota as soon as possible. Be prepared.

Ranger Suarez – SP Philadelphia Phillies (hand)

MLB Injury Report - Rejoice for Royce (1)

The good news is that Suarez’s hand feels better and the swelling has somewhat subsided. The uncertainty about his next start complicates matters, however, because if he cannot make his next start, would he fly with the team to London for the series? Either way, it’s good news after a big scare on Saturday.

Michael Wacha – SP Kansas City Royals (foot)

#Royals training staff says Michael Wacha is doing light activity for next 7-10 days following the small fracture in his left foot. They will reintroduce baseball activity after that. Hoping back in 3-4 weeks but no definitive timetable in predicting how quick fracture will heal

— Joel Goldberg (@goldbergkc) June 2, 2024

Wacha took a comebacker off his foot the other day, and will now miss approximately one month of action. It is a non-displaced fracture in his foot and he needs a ton of rest before anything else. We should know more in under a week once baseball activities are reintroduced.

Bobby Miller – SP Los Angeles Dodgers (shoulder)

Dave Roberts said the velocity was down for Bobby Miller in Lake Elsinore, but hasn’t yet talked to Miller

Up next is Miller starting for @okc_baseball on Friday. The hope is for 5 innings

Roberts didn’t rule out Miller potentially needing another rehab start after that

— Eric Stephen (@ericstephen) June 2, 2024

This was about as bad of a start for Miller with the exception of his getting injured… which did not happen. However, his first inning was lackluster despite only facing four batters. He still took nineteen pitches to record three outs, and not being able to put away Triple-A batters is a problem. He finished the night with diminished velocity while surrendering four runs on five hits over 65 pitches thrown. He will need at least one more rehab outing, but chances are that he requires more than that before returning to the Dodgers.

Max Muncy – 3B Los Angeles Dodgers (ribs)

#Dodgers 3B Max Muncy said he felt a “twinge” in rib cage 7-10 days ago while swinging bat in AZ and has been shut down from all baseball activities. No timetable for return at this point. “Not sure frustrating even describes how I feel right now,” Max said.

— Mike DiGiovanna (@MikeDiGiovanna) June 2, 2024

This should be considered a setback, as Muncy continues to feel the pain in his sides every time he tries to do some baseball activities. Obliques are tricky in nature and they also need their time to heal. It feels like Muncy should be shut down for a little while and let the healing happen naturally.

CJ Abrams – SS Washington Nationals (shoulder)

CJ Abrams scratched from Nats lineup for the second straight day. He was going to take some swings in the cage and see how his left shoulder responded. Apparently, it didn't respond well enough.

— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) June 2, 2024

This is something to monitor, as it could lead to something significant. That said, his unresponsive shoulder might just be something that requires one extra day of rest. Stay tuned.

Chicago Cubs – Team Update

Today's updates on the @IowaCubs MLB rehabbers.

Jordan Wicks: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 2 BB
Keegan Thompson: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K, 1 BB
Daniel Palencia: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB (9-pitch perfect 7th inning). https://t.co/r9wcugKw1h

— Alex Cohen (@voiceofcohen2) June 2, 2024

Both Jordan Wicks (forearm) and Thompson (illness) did well on Sunday, despite pitching in the rain. There is a chance that Wicks will be back with the Cubs later this week, but the team may want to build him up even further before that moment arrives. As for Thompson, this may be it, as he wasn’t away for something physical.

Blake Snell – SP San Francisco Giants (groin)

Bob Melvin provides an update on the injury that forced Blake Snell to exit today's game pic.twitter.com/K9D99JE5pv

— SF Giants on NBCS (@NBCSGiants) June 2, 2024

Snell returned from an abductor injury two weeks ago and now may miss additional time. There should be updates on this situation in the near future, which includes the results from his MRI, but this has been a disastrous start to his career with the Giants. From missing camp to a delayed start and now multiple injuries, his on-again off-again nature may be coming back to bite him after signing late.

Boston Red Sox – Team Update

Updates from Alex Cora:

– Vaughn Grissom getting an MRI today. He doesn’t feel it’s as bad as the one during spring training.

– they think Romy Gonzalez’s IL stint won’t be like (Cora compared it to Tyler O’Neill’s)

– Masataka Yoshida felt good after BP yesterday

— Gabrielle Starr (@gfstarr1) June 2, 2024

Vaughn Grissom will miss at least 10 days due to this injury. It’s important to note that this is not the same hamstring that was injured in the preseason. As for Masataka Yoshida (thumb), he is feeling better and is ramping up for a rehab assignment, which will likely be lengthy in nature.

Luis Arraez – 2B San Diego Padres (shoulder)

Mike Shildt says that Luis Arraez jammed his shoulder and a little bit of his neck on the slide at second base.

Shildt says "nothing that looks overly serious" and it was more of a precaution to take him out.

— Sammy Levitt (@SammyLev) June 2, 2024

Arraez said himself that he believed he would play in today’s game. Time will tell if that comes true, but for now, consider him DTD.

Zach Eflin – SP Tampa Bay Rays (back)

MLB Injury Report - Rejoice for Royce (2)

While nothing has been made official, it is looking like his return is borderline imminent. Be prepared.

Brandon Marsh – OF Philadelphia Phillies (hamstring)

From the Phillies: Brandon Marsh has a right hamstring strain. They are evaluating him now.

— Matt Gelb (@MattGelb) June 3, 2024

We should know about Marsh’s situation in the near future, as the team is one of the few with a game today. Chances are that he misses Monday’s action.
