Let me paint a picture that seems totally normal and reasonable... ...until you actually stop to think about it. 13 years of early/primary/secondary education (K-12)4 years of undergraduate education ($$)3-4 years of medical education ($$$$)1 year of internship (low wage, high stress, long hours, work for someone else)2-6 years of residency training (still low wage, high stress, long hours, work for someone else)In some cases, 1-3 years of fellowship training (still relatively low wage, high stress, long hours, work for someone else)Total education/training time: 24-31 years 😳Total cost ($ and opportunity): 😵…then just get a "job," work for someone else, and make them wealthy.Totally normal, right?If you're an employed doctor in the U.S. and aren't quite feeling right, there are many reasons for that. It doesn't have to be this way.

🙌 We very much enjoyed delivering a careers workshop at the University of Roehampton this week. A hybrid approach online and in-person worked very well, supporting BSc., MSc., and PhD students.One of the concepts we shared was our Nutrition Talent Career Action Plan – have you got one?Three steps:🎯3 things you would like to develop, try or stop doing to take you toward what feels purposeful to you🎯An small action that is a step towards each one🎯And a deadline against each stepGo on - dare you!Well done once again to all our students who made this happen today👌Self-reflection was another area we covered, what might you do now?🔀 Consider different career paths🪡Tailor my CV, cover letter and applications each time🪗Not cram everything into my CV It is always a pleasure sharing what’s worked, what hasn’t, the big lessons and the little ones with our community to come.We care very much for our profession and hope we have helped bring positive energy and options to the Nutrition students at Roehampton this week and alleviate some of their concerns.#nutrition #nutritioncareers #nutritionjobs #careercoaching #self-reflection #actionplan

As I sit here today about to sit my final exam and graduate after 6 years at University. I have pondered many times what the meaning of University is and what it has taught me. So I will list a few of my take a way's for people to ponder in their own time.1. Being a student is a job, treat it as such. Put in the time and effort you would in any job.2. Make the most of the opportunities that are thrown your way. You never know where they will take you.3. Its about relationships. Build up relationships with industry professionals whilst you are a Student. Those relationships will lead to your next job or open doors you never expected to be opened.4. Never say no to something, open every door you can and peak inside whilst the risk is low.Most importantly though5. Give back to future students and share your experiences with them. This is by far some of the most rewarding work I did at Uni.

I learned that I am both quick and accurate at identifying connections and reaching conclusions. It also says that I am comfortable making fast decisions. I seek roles that allow outlets for my natural research and investigative tendencies, even if not in my job title. I am more bold about my approaches. It thinks more psychical things suit my lifestyle. orthodontist, athletic trainer, nutritionist. Your Major does Not define you!! My little brother was a Music major & Entomology minor - he’s worked in Banking, Healthcare, Finance!! The world is your oyster! A major is an area of focus and concentration - it displays your adept capabilities in achievung a topic—your ability to learn and hone a variety of skills thru the experience is evidentCertain majors can absolutely shape and impact your career trajectory, and some are required to pursue specific career paths - however, recall, your major is not the totality of you. It is not your full essence. It doesn’t define the entirety of your future. Your grit. Your work ethic. Your tenacity. Your drive. Your zest. These aspects move you forward. Your motivation and pursuit will take you to the next level - keep your eyes open. Keep exploring!
