Hidden in the Night - Elizabeth Goddard - Review - Giveaway - Reading Is My SuperPower (6)

I have very much enjoyed Elizabeth Goddard’s Missing in Alaska series, and while I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters Hidden in the Night was a lovely way to do so. (It’s not necessary to have read the previous two books in the series, but because we get to catch up with those main characters too, you will likely enjoy it on a different level if you have read them.)

We already know Alaska State Trooper Nolan Long as the brother of Shadow Gap Police Chief Autumn Long Brenner, but in Hidden in the Night we get to learn more of his story. I really enjoyed diving into the layers that have shaped him and understanding more clearly what has motivated him… not to mention his complicated feelings for the ‘Sunshine Girl’ that got away – Ivy Elliott. Ivy has one of the coolest jobs, in my opinion. She’s a former FBI agent who is currently moonlighting as a rare book collector/investigator, and she’s in Alaska to track down a valuable lost manuscript by Jack London. I mean… what?!? Can you imagine getting to do that?

Unfortunately of course, the hunt, the reason for it, and the events leading up to it do not produce smooth sailing – this is a suspense novel, after all – and Goddard puts Nolan and Ivy through the fight of their lives… for their lives. Alaska throws out enough obstacles on its own, from dangerous blizzards to intense wind storms to deadly cold, but they also have to contend with several people who are out to interfere with the search and don’t care if Nolan and Ivy are wounded (or worse) in the process. I was on pins and needles more than once and made the mistake of relaxing far too soon far too many times (haha). Like our intrepid main characters, I wasn’t sure who to trust, who was behind things, and who/what was a red herring. I cleverly solved this dilemma by reading this book all in one sitting, not daring to put it down until I had all my answers. Sleep? nah. Food? I can snack while I read. Shower? I had one the day before. Work? It will still be there tomorrow. I was too invested in Nolan and Ivy, their swoony chemistry, and their heart-racing investigation(s) to spend time on such necessities.

Bottom Line:Hidden in the Nightby Elizabeth Goddard is a pulse-pounding romantic suspense that uses the wild elements of Alaska to ramp up the tension, an ever-evolving roster of pursuers and villains to keep you frantically turning the pages, a sweet romance to uplift your heart, and moving faith threads to remind you of the Source of our help. The characters – new and familiar – are engaging and relatable and the various plot threads fit together seamlessly. I was solidly invested in this story, and I highly recommend this whole series!

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)
